Subscribers ... New Users Manual Available!

Subscribers... I have completed another draft of the users manua for GMapsPRO.   This manual covers GMapsPRO, Community Builder and the GMaps Plugin extensions.  Here you will be able to find informatoin on the various parameters for the plugin, how to configure the GMaps/CB plugin and more detail about the concenpt of the marker offset to ensure CB users do not map to the same location.  In additon, with the 1.0 Beta (which really is stable) build of PRO, you are now capable of creating "view" templates for individual maps.  This doc includes the latest information on the tags you have avaialble when developing your template.

NOTE:  As time is very scarce for me at this time, I plan on releasing the stable build in the next few weeks.  It will not be much different than the build out there today.  Minor changes are the only thing being included.

Disk crashed!

Ever have a hard disk crash?  Well, I lost my drive a few days ago so I haven't had a chance to keep up with forums, questions, etc.  My apologies.  Right now, I am still trying to recreate my environment so I still need a couple of days to get back to normal.  Fortunately, I didn't loose much.   However, I did lose my email file so I lost any emails you may have sent or any outstanding requests that were made for help.  I know there were a few that were outstanding.  Please resend them and I'll see what I can do to help.

New beta 1.0 build released

Well ... sorry for the delay.  I finally found some time to clean up some of the minor bugs and was able to create the 1.0-beta build for GMapsPRO and 1.7-beta build for the CB/GMaps plugin.  Most of the changes are minor bug fixes from the RC2 build.  I hope this is another step forward to finalizing a stable build.  Here are the features placed in this build that wasn't in the previous build:

* CB Plugin can now be configured within the GMapsPRO plugin (although it still can be configured as normal)

* CB/GMaps plugin configuration are now persisted across upgrades

* "Self-Marker" on the CB/GMaps plugin

* Offset feature to prevent users geocoded to the same lat/long to have their markers plot over one another

* IP-based geocoding

Also, in an attempt to ease the pain of some of the configurations, I've created a User Guide for subscribers that is now available for download under the Downloads / Documents section.  Please note the copyright on this document.  In addition, this is a work in progress.  Although it is not totally complete, I believe there is information within the content that will aid many in their configuration of the extensions.  I hope to continue to update content and have a completed document within 1-2 weeks.

If you have any questions/comments, please email me at chris(at)firestorm-technologies.com.

'Self' Marker Icon - CB Plugin

One of the most requested features of the CB Map User plugin is the ability to define a different icon for the user being viewed so that it is easier to differentiate it from the rest of the nearby users.  This feature will come out with the next build of GMapsPRO.  It is available today on our demo site.  Check it out.  The "Member List" should be open to view without registration or login.

This build enables configuration of the CB plugin directly from the GMapsPRO configuration panels.  We'll place the beta build on the site for subscriber download within the next day or two.  I need to test a few more things before removing the "beta" tag from the build.

Upcoming PRO build

In the next couple of weeks, the final 1.0 build will be released.  There will not be any major changes from the RC2 build as it is focused on solving some of the minor bugs that have been reported.  A few of the key items that will be included are:

  • Ability to define specific templates for a map.  This will allow you to create different views of a map defined within GMaps..  Currentl, the only option is the viewmap.html template.
  • Select list index
  • Ability to set the "self" marker on the Community Builder Plugin

I am going to try and integrate the CB plugin configurations into the core GMapsPRO component but I am not sure time will permit.   The release will be available (hopefully) within 2 weeks.

CB DOCMan Plugin Available
A modified version of the Community Builder Docman is now available for download.  It is ENTIRELY FREE.  Go to downloads / Joomla extensions.    This is an unsupported extension.

Support Issues??

All, a posting on the forum today caught my attention and am troubled to what happened.  For those subscribers who haven't had a response to a posting, I apologize in advance.  I am the sole developer/support person for this effort and have been a bit overwhelmed with various items (personal, professional, Joomla related, etc).  If you did not get a post/response from me within 48 hours, please email me and I'll get back to you sooner rather than later.  I appreciate your patience and hopefully I haven't overlooked too many subscriber postings.  I do try and check the forums out at least once a day and no later than once every two days.  Again, sorry if you had been overlooked.  - Chris

Check out my updated baseball league site (See http://swibl-baseball.org/ ) running my JLeague extension (INTEGRATED WITH CB and AJAX) along with my APC component for profile controls.  AJAX is implemented on team profiles to render game history.

GMapsPRO Update

I wanted to let everyone know that I am currently working on the PRO build to resolve some of the issues that have been reported to me recently.  I am going to be testing the build on Joomla 1.0.13 and Joomla 1.5 Stable.    I will be releasing an 1.0 RC2 build as soon as possible (hopefully this weekend) that addresses some of the reported issues.  The final 1.0 build will (should - depending on my availability) out later this month.  Please go to the bug tracker tasklist (click here ) to see the items that have been currently reported.  You will also find a list of the items I'm working on for the build on the roadmap link within the Bug Tracker.  If you would like something for me to consider adding, please submit it there and shoot me an email to review it.

Also, if you have posted something on our forums that I haven't answered, please shoot me an email.  I've been pretty busy and feel that maybe some questions have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Thanks!  -- Chris
