Inserting maps into content items - 2007/08/05 23:07
Looked all over but did not really find an answer. Maybe this is something that I'm missing but where are the directions on how to use this gmaps?

I've done searches to find out how to actually add gmaps into content items and I'm perplexed. Anyone out there know how to do this? Thank you in advance!

make sure you have the mambot installed & published then use this code in content:

{mosgmap mapid=*}

replacing the * with the corresponding map id found in your list of maps in the backend

eg. {mosgmap mapid=1}

that should pull up the map in the frontend

Thank you! Suggestion - 2007/08/06 10:14
thank you for your help. There should have been something said about this on this site in the FAQ's but there is nothing. I would think that is one of the important FAQ's.

Anyway, I'm a little disappointed in this site. I use a great many of components and mambots and support the joomla developers... However, I don't know that I'm up for supporting this as I spent many hours trying to figure it out.

I have a suggestion for the developer, just be up front and charge for the damn component in the beginning rather than waste peoples time with all the horsing around. Change the license and charge a fee and that would eliminate a free forum and a members forum and all the other crap you have going on here like first having to register to then find out that you have to pay for the mambots. Again, be up front and charge a fee from the start.

the link for the information you sought can be found here:

http://firestorm-technologies.com/extensions/free-extensions/gmaps-mambot/plugin.html

It did used to be easier to find i agree but i guess it was moved to this section since the mambot became subsciption based. But then it was re-released to the public downloads. I guess the information was not moved due to an oversight. OR I could be wrong since it does certainly seem as if the mambot has been re-classified as subscription based.

Perhaps Chris can shed some light on the subject?

I understand your frustration as it is all a little confusing but it would be nice if you could wait for a response before "getting your hair off" on the forums. I doubt many would wish to step in on such a thread. I hope you aren't too dismayed m8, it really is a cracking component.

Certainly appreciate your response. It does look like a nice component, I just think it would be easier to charge a fee for it rather than have all the confusion. I paid $79.00 for jreviews and I have paid for a great number of extensions and templates for Joomla and I'm happy to continue paying for them if it saves me time and money and produces the desired results.

I do thank you for responding and apologize if I sounded frustrated, but it is frustrating and I practically live on a computer so I can imagine how frustrating it is for others.

I apologize for any confusion you may have had on our site. emoboyda is exactly correct as it was re-released some 3-4 weeks ago under a subscription and the extensions listing does state that.

Regardless, I've tried to cleanup the site and if anything that indicates that this was available on the public side, I apologize again. Simply an oversite on my part. I'll search the site and see if I can find out any reference to this.

This link might help in understanding how to use the component. http://firestorm-technologies.com/faqs/gmaps/how-do-i-create-a-map.html. Once you have a map/markers built, you really just need a menu option that is for the GMaps component.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me and I will respond.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

Response Appreciated - 2007/08/06 19:00
I know sometimes that it gets difficult to change a site and to organize once it's grown to the point where you have to. From what everyone is saying and based on the ratings of this component, they like it so it looks like something I'd like to try out. I have an English site I'm doing for a school in the UK and it would work well.

If I could suggest, because I realize what happens when a site grows, just make it a complete product purchase or at least a description of how it works and the requirements. That would eliminate a lot of extra work for you as well as for us. Documentation should come with the product in my opinion.

Thanks for responding and thanks for the component. Look forward to your future components.

Hello Chris
(New subscriber here, but have been using your Gmaps on my site for some time). I just discovered this plug in for inserting the Gmaps as content, and initially looks like it's working fine in my test case. I do have a question about how to specify the size of the map etc. You allude to some arguements in the install notes, but I think I need a little more help than that.

Thanx

Jim G.

Jim,
Here is the KB entry for the plugin.
http://gmaps.firestorm-technologies.com/knowledge-base/gmaps/what-parameters-are-available-on-the- mosgmap-tag-when-using-the-plugin/mambot.html

you can add the "height=?px|width=100%" parameters to the tag and that should do it. Please email me on this and I'll walk you though. sorry about this. I thought I had a doc out there.

I have spent hours trying to get this working. And must say this is very confusing.

The links to what would seem to be helpful information point to an old site.

step by step documentation would be great! I did pay the registration and have access but still unable to get this working.
