Would it be possible to change the code so if there is only one map published, then it will access the map immediately. Instead of making a list with the name of the map.

Yes I could. Please add that to the bug tracker / feature requests so it doesn't get lost in the vast # of emails I get.

A quick work around is to copy the link location from the one map and use that to create your menu link.

Yes, I'd like to see their bug tracker.
